Primer of Ma Durga
Goddess Durga the supreme power of the Supreme Being be surely,
Universe Mother - power of creation, preservation and destruction truly,
She rides the Lion - signifying power, will and determination certainly,
Saying "Surrender all actions onto me and I free you from fears totally".
Her forms Kali, Bhagvati, Bhavani, Ambika, Lalita, Gauri, and others be,
Her nine appellations are Skondamata, Kusumanda, Shailaputri, Kaalratri,
Brahmacharini, Maha Gauri, Katyayani, Chandraghanta and Siddhidatri,
She ever protects her devotees from evils and removes all their miseries.
Like Shiv, Durga referred as "Triyambake", the three eyed Goddess be,
Left - desire (moon), right - action (sun), central - knowledge (fire) clearly.
Her eight or ten hands represent eight quadrants or ten directions fully,
"Trishul" shows (Satwa, Rajas, Tamas) inactivity, activity and non-activity.
Conch shell in her hand implies 'Om', indicating her hold on to God truly,
Her bow and arrows represent full control over both aspects of energy,
The thunderbolt signifies firmness – firmness of convictions forcefully,
Lotus in her hand not fully bloomed - signifies success but not finality.
"Sudarshan-Chakra" on her index finger - the world obedient to her will be,
Using it to destroy evil and produce growth of righteousness universally,
The sword she holds in one of her hands symbolizes knowledge totally,
She removes (physical, mental and spiritual) all three types of miseries.

9. Mata Sidhidaarti
Worshipped on the 9th night
SIDDHIDATRI (Boon Giver) - Day 9
सिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षाद्यैरसुरैरमरैरपि ।
सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात् सिद्धीदा सिद्धीदायिनी ॥
Ma Siddhidatri baths knowledge over her devotees,
Who is served by siddha, celestial-bards reverently,
Apparitions, demons and demi-gods respectfully,
May she bestow siddhi on me with supreme felicity. [9]
Siddhidatri dhyana mantra is the best stotra to recite for attaining all types of Siddhis and Nidhis. This mantra is recited on Mahanavami day during Navratri to get blessings of the Goddess. Siddhidatri Navadurga devi is worshipped by sadhaks or Siddhas to acquire all chakras and spiritual procedures with their attentive sadhana.
(Ensconced upon a lotus, most commonly, with 4 arms, and is the possessor of 26 different wishes to grant her bhakts. Siddhiratri's famous pilgrim centre, is located in Nanda Parvat in the Himalayas.) who is a treasure house of Mystic Powers (Yantra Tantra) and Knowledge (Gyaan).

8. Maa MahaGauri
Worshipped on the 8th night
MAHAGAURI (The White Force) - Day 8
श्र्वेते वृषे समारूढा श्र्वेताम्बरधरा शुचिः ।
महागौरी शुभं दद्यान्महादेवप्रमोददा ॥
Ma Mahagauri calm, kind existing peacefully,
Riding on a great white-elephant majestically,
In white-apparel, pure, delights Mahadeva surely,
May she bestow auspicion on me serenely. [8]
Her worship or rememberance or meditation of Mahagowri makes the devotee free from his material world and keeps him stay away from sorrows. She leads her bhakt to the path of virtue.
(Four arms with the fairest complexion of all the Durga Shaktis.
Peace and compassion radiate from her being and she is often dressed in a white or green sari.
She holds a drum and a trident and is often depicted riding a bull.) who also liberate the world of evil forces
7. Maa Kaalratri
Worshipped on the 7th night
KALDATRI (Deadly Night) - Day 7
एकवेणी जपाकर्णपूर नग्ना खरास्थिता ।
लम्बोष्ठी कर्णिकाकर्णी तैलाभ्यक्तशरीरिणी ॥
वामपादोल्लसल्लोहलताकण्टकभूषणा ।
वर्धनमुर्धध्वजा कृष्णा कालरात्रिर्भयङ्करी ॥
Ma Kaladatri destroyer of all the demon entities,
Goddess Kaladatri fierce in her appearance truly,
Resembles a black-lotus - her form and body,
Whose laugh is terrific - bestow favour kindly. [7]
Dhyana mantram of Kaaldatri Navdurga is recited during the seventh day or Maha Saptami day during Navarathri. This mantra frees from misfortune and keeps him fit to face any challenge in life. On seventh day of Navratri, Yogis and other upasaks of Shakti concentrate their mind on Sahasrara Chakra, providing all siddhis and nidhis of universe. Kaaldatri puja makes the devotee free from material world and provides him with Ashta siddhis and Nava nidhis. With this puja, all his sins and obstacles are completely vanished.
Black skin with bountiful hair and 4 hands, 2 clutching a cleaver and a torch, while the remaining 2 are in the mudras of "giving" and "protecting". Her vahana is a faithful donkey. The destroyer of darkness and ignorance, Kaalratri is the seventh form of Nav-Durga meaning scourer of darkness; enemy of darkness.

6. Maa Kaatyayini
Worshipped on the 6th night
KATYAYANI DEVI (The Daughter of Katyayana) - Day 6
चन्द्रहासोज्जवलकरा शार्दूलवरवाहना ।
कात्यायनी शुभं दद्यादेवी दानवघातिनी ॥
Ma Katyayani battles against evil and deceitful entities,
Whose hands are white like moon-dazzle virtuously,
Who seated on a mighty-tiger, kills demons pitilessly,
May she bestow auspicion on me sympathetically. [6]
On the day of Katyayani puja, Yogis or Sadhak who perform the pooja keep their mind on Ajna Chakra or Agna Chakra. Ajna Chakra is the most important Chakra or the step in spiritual practice.
As mother, Kaatyayani stayed in the Ashram of sage Katyayan for penance, hence she is named Kaatyayani. This 6th Shakti is also astride a lion with 3 eyes and 4 arms. One left hand holds a weapon and the other a lotus. The other 2 hands respectively display defending and granting gestures.
Her complexion is golden coloured who persistently battles against the evil and deceitful entities.

5. Skand Maa
Worshipped on the 5th night
SKANDA MAA (The Mother of Skanda) - Day 5
सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माश्रितकरद्वया ।
शुभदास्तु सदा देवी स्कन्दमाता यशस्विनी ॥
Ma Skandamata discerns from right and wrong surely,
Who is permanently seated on the throne royally,
Whose two-hands are honoured by lotuses prettily,
Who is glorious - bestows favour on me kindly. [5]
On this day devotees stay their mind in Vishuddha Chakra.
Skanda Mata represents Visuddha Chakra. Skanda as a child in the lap of Skanda mata represents the devotees dedicated and concentrated state of mind. Vishuddha Chakra indicated that the Yogi is in calm and completely submerged in Shakti worship.
Using a lion as a vehicle she holds her son, SKAND in her lap while displaying 3 eyes and 4 hands; two hands hold lotuses while the other 2 hands respectively display defending and granting gestures. By the mercy of Skandmata, even the idiot becomes an ocean of knowledge.
On this day, Yogis and other dedicated devotees stay their mind in Vishuddha Chakra. Skanda Mata represents Visuddha Chakra. Skanda as a child in the lap of Skanda mata represents the devotees dedicated and concentrated state of mind. Vishuddha Chakra indicated that the Yogi is in calm and completely submerged in Shakti worship. Sometimes, Skanda mata appears as seated on a lotus. Skandamata seated on lotus is called Padmasa Skanda mata

4. Maa Kushmaanda
Worshipped on the 4th night
KUSHMANDA (Cosmic Egg Layer) - Day 4
सुरासम्पूर्णकलशं रुधिराप्लुतमेव च ।
दधाना हस्तपद्माभ्यां कूष्माण्डा शुभदास्तु मे ॥
Ma Kushmanda the Creator of the Universe purely,
Whose hands are ever holding two pots symbolically,
Filled with sura (elixir) and blood characteristically,
Who is famed - bestow your favour on me kindly. [4]
On this day devotees keep their mind in Anahata Chakra.
Kushmanda represents Anahata Chakra in spiritual practice. Kushmanda pooja during Durga Navratri increases health and strength.
The worship of Kushmanda, possessed of eight arms, holding weapons and a mala or rosary.
Her mount is a tiger and she emanates a solar like aura.
"Kumbh Bhand" means to see cosmic vivacity in Pindi shape or knowledge of cosmic intricacies in human race) providing basic necessities to the world.

3. Maa Chandraghanta
Worshipped on the 3rd night
CHANDRAGHANTA (Lunargong) - Day 3
पिण्डजप्रवरारूढा चन्दकोपास्त्रकैर्युता ।
प्रसादं तनुते मह्मं चन्द्रघण्देति विश्रुता ॥
Ma Chandraghanta establishes justice ever virtuously,
Who is seated on the best among birds [Garuda] visibly,
Who is furious with anger and strength unquestionably,
Who is famous for saving from danger all her devotees. [3]
Ma Durga Shakti is astride a tiger, displays a golden hue to her skin, possesses ten hands and 3 eyes. Eight of her hands display weapons while the remaining two are respectively in the mudras of gestures of boon giving and stopping harm. Chandra + Ghanta, meaning supreme bliss and knowledge, showering peace and serenity, like cool breeze in a moonlit night

2. Maa Brahmachaarini
Worshiped on the 2nd night
BRAHMACHARINI (Penance Doer) - Day 2
दधाना करपद्माभ्यामक्षमाला कमण्डलू ।
देवी प्रसीदतु मयि ब्रह्मचारिण्यनुत्तमा ॥
Ma Brahmacarini with tapa of love gorgeously,
Holding in her hand an aks.mala, a garland of rosary,
And kamandal in Her lotus-hand ever affectionately,
Who is unsurpassed - be gracious to me kindly. [2]
One hand holds a "Kumbha" or water port and the other rosary, she personifies love and loyalty, Bhramcharni is store-house of knowledge and wisdom, Rudraksha is her most adorned ornament.
Brahma means tapasya or meditation and She gives the message of pure love to the world.

1. Maa Shailputri

SHAILPUTRI (The Daughter of Mountain) - Day 1
वन्दे वाञ्छितलाभाय चन्द्रार्धकृतशेखरां ।
वृषारूढां शूलधरां शैलपुत्री यशस्विनीं ॥
Ma Sailaputri daughter of Himalaya purely,
For achievement of desired, I adore Sailaputri,
Who made crescent-moon as a head-crown truly,
Is seated on an ox, holds a trident, and is glory. [1]
Shail means mountains; Parvati, the daughter of king of Mountains Himavan, is known as "Shailputri" means the daughter of mountain, as she is the daughter of Parvatraj Himalaya (King of the Mountain). Maa Shailputri is the absolute form of Mother Nature. She is also known as Goddess Parvati the consort of Lord Shiva and mother of Ganesh and Kartikeya. In the Navratra festival the worshiping Mother Goddess has a half moon on her forehead, holds a trident in her right hand, lotus flower in her left hand and rides on mount Nandi a bull. Shailaputri wears a light pink or white coloured sare.
Goddess Shailputri is the first among the nine Navadurga Goddesses. Shailputri mata is worshipped on the first day during Durga Navratri Pooja. The Goddess is worshipped on Kalash Sthapana or Ghatsthapana day.
In some scriptures like Shivapurana & Devi Bhagvatam the story of Mother Goddess is written as follow:
Maa Bhagwati in her earlier birth was born as a daughter of Daksh Prajapati. Then her name was ‘Sati’ and she was married to Lord Shiva. But in a sacrificial ceremony organized by her father Prajapati Daksh, she got her body burnt in the yogic fire, because she could not bear the insult of her husband Lord Shiva by her father Prajapati Daksha in the sacrificial ceremony.
In her next birth she incarnated her as Goddess Parvati, the daughter of Parvatraj Himalaya and among Nava Durgas she has been referred to as Sailaputri who was again known as Himavati. In her Haimavati aspect she defeated all prominent gods. Like her previous birth in this life also Maa Shailaputri (Parvati) got married with Lord Shiva.
The first and the most prominent among Nava Durgas, Shailaputri is of immense importance and her glories are endless.
She is the Devi of the root chakra, who, upon awakening, begins Her journey upwards. Sitting on Nandi, and making her first journey from the Muladarachakra. As from her father to her husband – the awakening Shakti, beginning Her search for Lord Shiva or making a move towards her Shiva. So that, In navrati pooja the first day Yogi’s keep their mind concentrated on Muladhara. This is the starting point of their spiritual discipline. They started their Yogasadha from here. Shaila Putri is the Mooladhara Shakti to be realized within Self and sought for higher depths, in the yogic meditation

(i)
जयन्ती मंगला काली भद्रकाली कपालिनी।
दुर्गा क्षमा शिवा धात्री स्वाहा स्वधा नमोस्तुते॥
Jayanti, Mandal, Kali, Bhadrakali,
Kaplini, Durga are name of you,
Forgiver, Shiv’s famous student,
Jagdambikey my salutations to you.
ii.
नमो देव्यै महादेव्यै शिवायै सततं नमः।
नमः प्रकृत्यै भद्रायै नियताः प्रणताः स्म ताम्॥१॥
Salutations to the Devi, to the Mahadevi,
Who is ever auspicious, salutations to you,
To the primordial cause and power sustainedly,
With attention, we ever make obeisance to you.
रौद्रायै नमो नित्यायै गौर्यै धात्र्यै नमो नमः।
ज्योत्स्नायै चेन्दुरूपिण्यै सुखायै सततं नमः॥२॥
Salutations to you who is terrible, to you Gauri,
Who is eternal, the supporter of Universe too,
Who is of the appearance of the moon infinitly,
Moon-light and happiness itself, salutations to you.
कल्याण्यै प्रणता वृद्धयै सिद्धयै कुर्मो नमो नमः।
नैर्ऋत्यै भूभृतां लक्ष्म्यै शर्वाण्यै ते नमो नमः॥३॥
We bow to you who is welfare to all and humanity,
Who is properity and success, salutation to you,
Who the good fortune and misfortune of kings too,
To the consort of Lord Shiv, my salutations to you.
दुर्गायै दुर्गपारायै सारायै सर्वकारिण्यै।
ख्यात्यै तथैव कृष्णायै धूम्रायै सततं नमः॥४॥
Salutations to Durga who bridges difficulties endlessly,
Who is essence and the author of everything too,
Who is blue-black, smoke-like in tone and swarthily,
Who is knowledge of discrimination, salutations to you.
अतिसौम्यातिरौद्रायै नतास्तस्यै नमो नमः।
नमो जगत्प्रतिष्ठायै देव्यै कृत्यै नमो नमः॥५॥
We prostate before you the most gentle and terrible too,
We again and again ever repeatedly do ever salute you,
To you who is the support of the world and universe too,
Who is of the form of volition, Devi - my salutation to you.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु विष्णुमायेति शब्दिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥६॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु चेतनेत्यभिधीयते।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥७॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings dwells as maya of Vishnu,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all as consciousness true.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु बुद्धिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥८॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु निद्रारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥९॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings in form of intelligence be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of sleep truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु क्षुधारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥१०॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु छायारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥११॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings in the form of hunger be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of reflection truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु शक्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥१२॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु तृष्णारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥१३॥

Who in all beings in form of power be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of thirst truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु क्षान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।

या देवी सर्वभुतेषु जातिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥१५॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings in the form of mercy be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of genus truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु लज्जारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥१६॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु शान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
मस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥१७॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings in the form of modesty be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of peace truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु श्रद्धारूपेण संस्थिता।

या देवी सर्वभुतेषु कान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।

Who in all beings in form of unshakable faith be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of loveliness truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु लक्ष्मीरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२०॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु वृत्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२१॥

Who in all beings in form of good fortune be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of activity truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु स्मृतिरूपेण संस्थिता।

या देवी सर्वभुतेषु दयारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२३॥

Who in all beings in the form of memory be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of compassion truly,
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु तुष्टिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२४॥
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु मातृरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२५॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings in the form of contentment be,
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who abides in all in the form of mother truly.
या देवी सर्वभुतेषु भ्रान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२६॥
इन्द्रियाणामधिष्ठात्री भुतानां चाखिलेषु या।
भूतेषु सततं तस्यै व्याप्तिदेव्यै नमो नमः॥२७॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who in all beings in the form of illusion be,
To the all-pervading Devi who constantly,
Controls senses of beings and elements truly.
चितिरूपेण या कृत्स्नमेतद्व्याप्य स्थिता जगत्।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥२८॥
Salutations again and again to the Devi,
Who pervading over this entire world be,
Abides in form of consciousness continually,
With the awareness, controlling constantly.

Durga Chalisa
नमो नमो दुर्गे सुख करनी। नमो नमो अम्बे दुःख हरनी॥
निराकार है ज्योति तुम्हारी। तिहूं लोक फैली उजियारी॥
To Goddess Durga, bestower of happiness, I bow,
To Goddess Amba, who but ends all miseries, I bow,
Your light’s radiance unending and all pervading flows,
And all the three realms are enlightened by your glow.
शशि ललाट मुख महा विशाला। नेत्र लाल भृकुटी विकराला॥
रुप मातु को अधिक सुहावे। दरश करत जन अति सुख पावे॥
Your forehead like the moon and mouth very huge be,
Your eyes with a red glow and a frightening frown to see,
The look of you Mother but ever enchanting does be,
The very sight of which ensures welfare of the devotee.
तुम संसार शक्ति लय कीना। पालन हेतु अन्न धन दीना॥
अन्नपूर्णा हुई जग पाला। तुम ही आदि सुन्दरी बाला॥
All the powers of the World repose in you surely,
You provide food and wealth for all survival truly,
As Annapoorna, You nurture the universe clearly,
You – the youthful timeless girl of extreme beauty.
प्रलयकाल सब नाशन हारी। तुम गौरी शिव शंकर प्यारी॥
शिव योगी तुम्हरे गुण गावें। ब्रह्मा विष्णु तुम्हें नित ध्यावें॥
At dissolution time’s end - you destroyer of everything be,
You, beloved consort of Lord Shiva, Gauri (Parvati) really,
Lord Shiv and all yogis always chant your praise certainly,
Brahma, Vishnu and all Gods ever meditate on you surely.
रुप सरस्वती को तुम धारा। दे सुबुद्घि ऋषि मुनिन उबारा॥
धरा रुप नरसिंह को अम्बा। प्रगट भई फाड़कर खम्बा॥
You also appear in the form of Goddess Saraswati certainly,
Granting wisdom to sages ensuring their welfare perpetually,
You Mother Amba appeared in the form of Narsimha clearly,
Emerging after tearing the pillar to safeguard the humanity.
रक्षा कर प्रहलाद बचायो। हिरणाकुश को स्वर्ग पठायो॥
लक्ष्मी रुप धरो जग माही। श्री नारायण अंग समाही॥
You saved Prahlad by protecting him completely,
You killed and sent Hiranyakashyap to Heaven surely,
In Goddess Lakshmi’s form you appear undoubtedly,
And repose by the side of Shree Narayan indisputably.
क्षीरसिन्धु में करत विलासा। दयासिन्धु दीजै मन आसा॥
हिंगलाज में तुम्हीं भवानी। महिमा अमित न जात बखानी॥
Residing in the ocean of milk with Lord Vishnu eternally,
Mother please do grace me and fulfil my desires lovingly,
The famed Hingalaj goddess is none else but you Bhawani,
Everlasting is your Glory, defying description perpetually.
मातंगी धूमावति माता। भुवनेश्वरि बगला सुखदाता॥
श्री भैरव तारा जग तारिणि। छिन्न भाल भव दुःख निवारिणी॥
You are yourself Matangi and Dhoomavati Mata surely,
As Bhuvaneshwari and Bagala give happiness certainly,
As Shree Bhairav you but redeem the world unfailingly,
As Tara and Chhinnamasta Devi end sorrows relentlessly.
केहरि वाहन सोह भवानी। लांगुर वीर चलत अगवानी॥
कर में खप्पर खड्ग विराजे। जाको देख काल डर भाजे॥
You are welcome reposing upon your vehicle gracefully,
The brave Langour (Hanuman) precedes you faithfully,
In Kali’s form, with sword and cupel in hand fiercely,
Even Kala (Time) flees in panic on seeing you so intensely.
सोहे अस्त्र और तिरशूला। जाते उठत शत्रु हिय शूला॥
नगर कोटि में तुम्ही विराजत। तिहूं लोक में डंका बाजत॥
Seeing you, well armed, with a Trident in your hand fervidly,
The heart of the enemy aches with the sting of fear fearfully,
You repose in form of Devi at Nagarkot in Kangara certainly,
Thus all the three realms shudder in the might of your glory.
शुम्भ निशुम्भ दानव तुम मारे। रक्तबीज शंखन संहारे॥
महिषासुर नृप अति अभिमानी। जेहि अघ भार मही अकुलानी॥
You destroyed the demons like Shumbh and Nishumb clearly,
Massacred the dreaded forms of the demon Raktabeej surely,
And even of the over arrogant Mahishasur but so certainly,
When earth was distressed bearing the load of sins severely.
रुप कराल कालिका धारा। सेन सहित तुम तिहि संहारा॥
परी गाढ़ सन्तन पर जब जब। भई सहाय मातु तुम तब तब॥
You took the dreadful form of Goddess Kali fully,
And massacred all along with their total army,
Whenever the noble saints were distressed truly,
You came to their rescue but ever unhesitatingly.
अमरपुरी अरु बासव लोका। तब महिमा सब रहें अशोका॥
ज्वाला में है ज्योति तुम्हारी। तुम्हें सदा पूजें नर नारी॥
All the realms including the Amarpuri (divine realm) clearly,
Remain sorrow-less and happy by Your Grace unquestionably,
It is Your glory’s symbol burning at Shri JwalaJi ever brightly,
All men and women ever worship You, O Mother unceasingly.
प्रेम भक्ति से जो यश गावै। दुःख दारिद्र निकट नहिं आवे॥
ध्यावे तुम्हें जो नर मन लाई। जन्म-मरण ताको छुटि जाई॥
He who sings Your glory with devotion, love, and sincerity,
Remains beyond the reach and grasp of grief and poverty.
Who meditates upon your form with concentration certainly,
Goes beyond the cycle of births and deaths unmistakably.
जोगी सुर मुनि कहत पुकारी। योग न हो बिन शक्ति तुम्हारी॥
शंकर आचारज तप कीनो। काम अरु क्रोध जीति सब लीनो॥
Munindra, all the yogis, gods and sages do declare openly,
Without your favour can't communion with God sincerely.
Shankarachary performed a special penance Aacharaj truly,
By virtue of which he subdued his anger and desires finally.
निशिदिन ध्यान धरो शंकर को। काहू काल नहिं सुमिरो तुमको॥
शक्ति रुप को मरम न पायो। शक्ति गई तब मन पछतायो॥
He but ever did worshipped Lord Shankar earnestly,
Never for a moment concentrated on You honestly,
Since he comprehended not your `sakti’ and glory,
His powers waned and then He repented certainly.
शरणागत हुई कीर्ति बखानी। जय जय जय जगदम्ब भवानी॥
भई प्रसन्न आदि जगदम्बा। दई शक्ति नहिं कीन विलम्बा॥
He thereafter sought refuge in You - chanted Your glory,
'O Jagadamba Bhavani to thee - victory, victory, victory’,
When you were pleased Goddess Jagadamba finally,
You then bestowed him with all his lost powers kindly.
मोको मातु कष्ट अति घेरो। तुम बिन कौन हरै दुःख मेरो॥
आशा तृष्णा निपट सतवे। मोह मदादिक सब विनशावै॥
O Mother! Severe afflictions distress me overwhelmingly,
None but You can provide relief – end my afflictions quickly,
Hopes and longings constantly torture me ever increasingly,
Passions and lust continually torment my heart unceasingly.
शत्रु नाश कीजै महारानी। सुमिरों इकचित तुम्हें भवानी॥
करौ कृपा हे मातु दयाला। ऋद्घि सिद्घि दे करहु निहाला॥
Destroy all my enemies O Queen forcefully,
Goddess Bhavani! I meditate upon you only,
Merciful Mother! Favour me - make me happy,
Bestowing me with riches, powers and glory.
जब लगि जियौं दया फल पाऊँ। तुम्हरो यश मैं सदा सुनाऊँ॥
दुर्गा चालीसा जो नित गावै। सब सुख भोग परम पद पावै॥
Mother! Grace me by Your grace in life truly,
Ever recounting to all the feats of Your Glory,
Whoever sings this Durga Chalisa enjoys eternally,
All pleasures and attains the highest state finally.

नवदुर्गास्तोत्र
Nine forms of Durga
(Thought for each of the nine days)
SHAILPUTRI (The Daughter of Mountain) - Day 1
वन्दे वाञ्छितलाभाय चन्द्रार्धकृतशेखरां ।
वृषारूढां शूलधरां शैलपुत्री यशस्विनीं ॥
Ma Sailaputri daughter of Himalaya purely,
For achievement of desired, I adore Sailaputri,
Who made crescent-moon as a head-crown truly,
Is seated on an ox, holds a trident, and is glory. [1]
BRAHMACHARINI (Penance Doer) - Day 2
दधाना करपद्माभ्यामक्षमाला कमण्डलू ।
देवी प्रसीदतु मयि ब्रह्मचारिण्यनुत्तमा ॥
Ma Brahmacarini with tapa of love gorgeously,
Holding in her hand an aks.mala, a garland of rosary,
And kamandal in Her lotus-hand ever affectionately,
Who is unsurpassed - be gracious to me kindly. [2]
CHANDRAGHANTA (Lunargong) - Day 3
पिण्डजप्रवरारूढा चन्दकोपास्त्रकैर्युता ।
प्रसादं तनुते मह्मं चन्द्रघण्देति विश्रुता ॥
Ma Chandraghanta establishes justice ever virtuously,
Who is seated on the best among birds [Garuda] visibly,
Who is furious with anger and strength unquestionably,
Who is famous for saving from danger all her devotees. [3]
KUSHMANDA (Cosmic Egg Layer) - Day 4
सुरासम्पूर्णकलशं रुधिराप्लुतमेव च ।
दधाना हस्तपद्माभ्यां कूष्माण्डा शुभदास्तु मे ॥
Ma Kushmanda the Creator of the Universe purely,
Whose hands are ever holding two pots symbolically,
Filled with sura (elixir) and blood characteristically,
Who is famed - bestow your favour on me kindly. [4]
SKANDAMATA (The Mother of Skanda) - Day 5
सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माश्रितकरद्वया ।
शुभदास्तु सदा देवी स्कन्दमाता यशस्विनी ॥
Ma Skandamata discerns from right and wrong surely,
Who is permanently seated on the throne royally,
Whose two-hands are honoured by lotuses prettily,
Who is glorious - bestows favour on me kindly. [5]
KATYAYANI DEVI (The Daughter of Katyayana) - Day 6
चन्द्रहासोज्जवलकरा शार्दूलवरवाहना । कात्यायनी शुभं दद्यादेवी दानवघातिनी ॥
Ma Katyayani battles against evil and deceitful entities,
Whose hands are white like moon-dazzle virtuously,
Who seated on a mighty-tiger, kills demons pitilessly,
May she bestow auspicion on me sympathetically. [6]
KALRATRI (Deadly Night) - Day 7
एकवेणी जपाकर्णपूर नग्ना खरास्थिता । लम्बोष्ठी कर्णिकाकर्णी तैलाभ्यक्तशरीरिणी ॥
वामपादोल्लसल्लोहलताकण्टकभूषणा । वर्धनमुर्धध्वजा कृष्णा कालरात्रिर्भयङ्करी ॥
Ma Kalaratri destroyer of all the demon entities,
Goddess Kalaratri fierce in her appearance truly,
Resembles a black-lotus - her form and body,
Whose laugh is terrific - bestow favour kindly. [7]
MAHAGAURI (The White Force) - Day 8
श्र्वेते वृषे समारूढा श्र्वेताम्बरधरा शुचिः । महागौरी शुभं दद्यान्महादेवप्रमोददा ॥
Ma Mahagauri calm, kind existing peacefully,
Riding on a great white-elephant majestically,
In white-apparel, pure, delights Mahadeva surely,
May she bestow auspicion on me serenely. [8]
SIDDHIDATRI (Boon Giver) - Day 9
सिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षाद्यैरसुरैरमरैरपि । सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात् सिद्धीदा सिद्धीदायिनी ॥
Ma Siddhidatri baths knowledge over her devotees,
Who is served by siddha, celestial-bards reverently,
Apparitions, demons and demi-gods respectfully,
May she bestow siddhi on me with supreme felicity. [9]
